The Incident: When a Collaboration Turns Into Exploitation

On 21st July 2025, Pragya Dhupar a skilled content creator and strategist was approached by Shryoan Cosmetics for a barter deal. She was asked to select four products from their website, create a video, and submit the content within a few days of receiving the package.

Products arrived on 24th July, and Pragya submitted her final reel by 28th July. That’s where the professionalism from Shryoan Cosmetics seemingly ended.

Repeated Ignorance and Ghosting by the Brand

Despite her timely content delivery, Shryoan Cosmetics ignored her follow ups for days. They didn’t review or respond to her messages until 2nd August, after which Pragya confirmed the reel would go live on 3rd August (Friendship Day) aligning with the theme of her video.

However, before she could post it herself, Shryoan took unethical liberties.

Unauthorised Edits & Whitewashing Accusations

The brand posted her content with heavy edits, including filters that made both her and her friend appear whitewashed directly altering her original creative work without consent.

When she confronted them, they:

  • Ignored her texts
  • Deleted the edited reel after she commented publicly
  • Re-uploaded the original video without tagging her as a collaborator, merely giving her a mention

This is not just about a missing credit it’s about erasing creator rights and diluting authenticity.

“If You Won’t Collaborate Properly — Then Pay Me”

In her public LinkedIn post, Pragya firmly stated:

“If you guys just want to tag me, better pay me.”

This reflects a broader problem in India’s influencer ecosystem where barter collaborations are exploited, and creators are used without recognition or respect.
